Summary:
We're proud to partner with a local, family-owned company in search of Mechanical Engineers to join their team! This position will require mechanical planning, designing, engineering, and is responsible for the overall quality of the technical output of their work. Position is fully onsite in the greater Madison, WI area, full-time hours Monday-Friday and pay is $75,000 or more per year based on experience. Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop mechanical layouts for complex optical instrumentation systems
  • Support full product lifecycle: drawings, supporting manufacturing, documenting assembly and performing or confirming testing
  • Apply knowledge of vacuum systems and materials to ensure reliability in high-precision environments
  • Perform and interpret tolerance analyses; support inspection and verification processes
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to include Engineering and Production
  • Design precision tooling and fixtures to aid in manufacturing and assembly of complex components
  • Contribute to a range of hands-on tasks beyond core design, supporting production, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement
  • Travel occasionally to customer sites or trade shows (minimal)
  • Stay current with industry standards and emerging technologies in optical and mechanical design

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field required
  • 4+ years of experience in mechanical engineering roles, focus on optical or scientific instrumentation preferred
  • Hands-on experience designing components for optical systems
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks preferred
  • Strong understanding of machining techniques (lathes, mills) and familiarity with inspection tools and processes
  • Experience with GD&T and tight tolerance design practices
  • Knowledge of material behavior, including properties affecting sealing, thermal expansion, and pressure
  • Proven ability to manage projects, communicate effectively across teams, and adapt in a fast-paced, collaborative setting
