Summary:
The Shop Manager will oversee the planning and coordination of tasks and activities within the company’s fleet repair shop, focusing specifically on trucks and equipment.
The ideal candidate should have a robust technical background with diesel engines, particularly with International and Freightliner makes. Previous management experience is also a necessity.
This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities to ensure the efficient operation of the shop and the optimal performance of the fleet.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Organize and manage daily activities in the shop, ensuring that all jobs are completed efficiently and within established timelines.
Assign tasks to mechanics and technicians based on their expertise and workload.
• Develop and implement maintenance schedules for all vehicles and equipment in the fleet. Notify drivers and operators when
maintenance is due to minimize disruptions and enhance vehicle reliability.
• Utilize diagnostic tools to accurately assess and identify necessary repairs on diesel engines and related components. Troubleshoot issues
to provide effective solutions.
• Manage comprehensive database of all maintenance and repair records for the fleet. Log service dates, repairs performed, parts used,
and other relevant details to ensure accurate tracking and compliance.
• Oversee the shop’s inventory management by guiding the assistant parts manager in ordering parts, supplies, and equipment as needed.
Ensure that the shop is well-stocked with the necessary tools and materials to minimize downtime.
• Ensure adherence to all safety standards and regulations within the facility. Conduct regular safety inspections, provide training for shop
staff, and implement safety protocols.
• Perform other related responsibilities as assigned by management to support the overall objectives of the company and its fleet
operations.
Qualifications and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Five or more years relevant experience in shop environment
• Supervisory and leadership experience
• Vocational or technical school training and associate degree preferred (Diesel Truck Technology)
